asherhansow Hearing Jake on his own his such a treat. Just hearing him make whatever he wants is amazing. I love the LP so much. Every song is a banger. Favorite track: Murderer.
Gabriel Lula

Gabriel Lula This album was my introduction to Jake Luppen and Hippo Campus.
I fell in love with every one of the eight tracks, the lyrics, the vocals and the production. It's still one of my most favourite albums and I'm very thankful for that. Favorite track: Lazy.
ethancave

ethancave From phenomenal production to very-memorable drum beats, Lupin is adorned by his voice and that is what truly makes up the Lupin project. It is a staple in albums of 2020, and I hope to hear more in the future from Lupin. Favorite track: Vampire.
carrrson

carrrson Sound wise this is one of the most dynamic albums. Lyrically I think it is one of the most down to Earth albums. In total? One of my favorite albums of all time. Favorite track: May.

I never meant to be a basket case So out of touch with my own thoughts I’m caught in retrograde The way you move and let it percolate I can’t compare, but I got this shiver I can’t seem to shake If you want it then say that you want it I can’t put it away, pause or stop it I just want you to know what your options are But I can’t phrase it the way that you want it You want it to just fall apart You want it to just You want it to just fall apart If you want it just say that you want it I can’t put it away, pause or stop it I just want you to know what your options are I can’t phrase it the way that you want it If you need me I’ll be waiting Just like I always do It’s not easy to survive it I cannot force us to If you need me I’ll be waiting just like I always do If you need it you can tell me I cannot force us to If you want it then say that you want It I can’t put it away, pause or stop it I just want you to know what your options are I can’t phrase it the way that you want it You want it to just fall behind You want it to just You want it to just fall behind You want it to just

Vampire 03:57
Cold weather shivers like a knife in the back tonight The things you claimed that you knew had taken flight A tipsy remedy but something’s causing strife Familiar echoes warn from a past life You got ambition, baby I can admire that You say you love me when there’s nobody loving back Call me a criminal I’m wearing the mask tonight Familiar echoes scream from a past life You want me to go back to your room Well, lie to me I’ll lie to you I think the jig will be up soon But can it wait til the morning Can it wait til the morning? Can it? It got so bloody like the moon on Friday night I sunk my teeth in so deep but you just sigh Can’t get off, Well, babe neither can I Familiar echoes bored from the past life You want me to go back to your room Well, lie to me I’ll lie to you I think the jig will be up soon But can it wait til the morning Can it wait til the morning? Can it?

Murderer 05:03
I put you in a box on the floor of my closet last Thursday Every piece of you held a unique place in my heart You called me a murderer You know it weighs on my conscience I always seem to get in the way so I’ll just tear it apart I’m surprised you didn’t think I’d tear it apart Like it meant nothing at all Like it meant nothing at all I hope you burn all of my records I hope your friends spit on my name and call me fool I hope that you meet someone who treats you better than I did I hope that you meet someone half as great as you are And I’ll fade away like I meant nothing at all Like I meant nothing at all Like I meant nothing at all I think I ought to sleep for days Turn off like I meant nothing at all

KO Kid 04:19
Ann wants to cross their fingers when they’re lying to me It ain’t cheap to keep their attention Their best intentions are the worst to me Dark matter outside our bedroom So vague and contentious I can’t believe you think it’s simple So fucking simple I’m caught in the fallout while they’re caught living free KO Kid gonna give it up KO Kid gonna shut it off Ann fuck your affections There are no excuses for empty speak So cliché The lover and the poet The things that held us back then I feel so guilty when it all comes back to me KO Kid gonna give it up KO Kid gonna shut it off Aim, point, and fire Shit I’m lying but I love the gun So cliché Bullets from the shooter Bullets ‘til I lose them I feel so guilty when it all comes back to me KO Kid gonna give it up KO Kid gonna shut it off Such an able artifact from the catch on feel From the whole corporation to the wind underneath to the aching artifact Where the good kids go To the troubled paradise Where the good kids go

Lazy 03:05
It doesn’t get better I always thought that it would I asked my parents if they thought I was good I don’t know now I don’t know anymore I used to think that I did Now if feels like I’m out of my mind And so it goes Lost myself lost control Should probably go back to what I know I’m going home I could paint a picture Catch an image in time A moody purple dripping paint down the sides I’ll stay distracted I’ll keep myself awake tonight Forgot to water the plants again Forget to take care of all that’s mine And so it goes Lost myself lost control Should probably go back to what I know I’m going home

May 03:46
You get high with me I know Your voice gets soft and slow The words pour out your mouth like smoke I wear it like Bleu De Chanel Cologne I know it fades so fast but I can be your diplomat Just call I’ll come right back I guess I’ll try my best but my mind is in the clouds We disagree but in time you’ll see You should have stuck around For seven years we ran from the future that we planned A past we couldn’t understand A present that looked better in the rearview Here we are I still think of you I still think of you Gone so far I still think of you I still think of you (ah may) It lasted longer than you had expected (ah may) But shorter than I thought it’d be (ah may) I always fuck things up when I’m pretending (ah may) I always fuck things up it’s killing me It’s killing me Here we are I still think of you I still think of you Gone so far I still think of you I still think of you It lasted longer than you had expected (ah may) But shorter than I thought it’d be (ah may) I always fuck things up when I’m pretending (ah may) I always fuck things up It’s killing me It’s killing me

Gloomy 03:32
In your red room staring up at the ceiling fan while you’re coming to Feeling blue feeling golden by you Bryn you must know that you’re my muse My favorite color when you bloom Favorite poem with your gloomy attitude In your red room staring up at the ceiling fan while you’re coming to Feeling blue feeling golden by you Bryn you must know that you’re my muse My favorite color when you bloom I’m your shadow when you’re moody To have and to hold you There’s tears in your eyes I’m numb to the feeling I keep it inside To have and to hold you It feels like a fire There’s tears in your eyes I keep it inside In your red room staring up at the ceiling fan while you’re coming to Feeling blue feeling golden by you Bryn you must know that you’re my muse My favorite color when you bloom I’m your shadow when you’re moody Lost in my mind like a vice can’t help it Creeping its way into my subconscious I’m holding on to every part of you While history tells me not to do what I want to do But you make a move and I see right through All good things burn in the end The end Bryn you must know that you’re my muse My favorite color when you bloom I’m your shadow when you’re moody In your red room staring up at the ceiling fan while you’re coming to Feeling blue feeling golden by you Bryn you must know that you’re my muse My favorite color when you bloom I’m your shadow when you’re moody

You had me black so black and blue Caught up over this caught up over you I made my move It hurt like a bitch Expected it to Thought that the walls would cave in Held up like a champ finessed my way through I made my move I made my move Isn’t it obvious I’m in oblivion Isn’t it obvious I’m in oblivion Maybe I’ve got the right frame of mind Stubborn as hell I’m finally compelled to break things off I hope you’re alright The sun’s turning red, I hope that it sets so gently now Don’t beat a dead horse There’s some things you can’t revive despite how hard you try I made my move, we’re making moves

about

Lupin Saint Paul, Minnesota

Although Jake Luppen rose to prominence as a vocalist and guitarist in St. Paul’s beloved indie outfit Hippo Campus, the songs on Lupin feel like meeting him for the first time. For Luppen, the process of making the record was one of self-discovery and a path to confidence, learning who he could be –and had always been –as both an artist and simply a person. Lupin is the sound of an arrival. ... more
